i'm cold and

i heard 'the man who can't be moved' on the radio after the longest time yesterday and i found myself 'feeling' the song, and was unable to get the song out of my head all over again, much a like the first time that i heard it.

and this's the way with all good songs, the ones that truly matter, they are timeless, and no matter how many times you listen to it, it still appeals to you, no matter how old a song it might be, it still sticks with you.

then there're songs that are incredibly catchy at first, which were almost impossible to shake off and was on everyone's playlist like 'low' but after a while, a quick while - more often then not - it didn't matter anymore.

the novelty had worn off, and beyond that, the was nothing more to the song, nothing more that it could offer. and so it grew stale.

while there also are songs that i immediately dislike, and songs that i'll never like, there too are songs that i grew to like, songs that are somewhat, an acquired taste, and the first such song that comes to mind is 'pork and beans'. P and B sounded awful, but as i got to listen more to the song, and check out its lyrics, it began to sound better and better, till it became one the songs that i like more.

and there're things, normally things that are out of the norm - out of the zone that we're comfortable in - different, that we find unattractive. but with and open mind, and a conscientious effort to understand, or at least a conscientious attempt to do so, we can find beauty, and an idiosyncratic, yet strangely endearing kind of charm.

but perhaps the most lamentable of all kind of songs are those that started off so very well, songs that felt special at first, yet faltered to deceive with time, and jay sean's 'maybe' is perhaps the most felicitous song here. while it sounded great at first, the song slowly lost its spark, undeniably and inexorably, like the erosion of paint on a wall - slow, but sure.

the words that seemed so special then felt repeated, and the melody that was so catchy - insipid. then the song really means nothing at all.

lastly, torn's a timeless great song by the way.
