i said ooh, she fell in lovei'm feeling really pleased right now, about a few things, but most of all, i think, i'm really pleased about getting to play football today.
and so, i decided to end my drought of posts because i simply didn't know what to write anymore after my deluge of posts over the past few weeks with a little thought that i had in my head yesterday.
i was watching the manutd-bolton game yesterday, and against all odds, the bolton side battled and fought and refused to budge and held a far superior united side goalless for an hour.
and then the referee made a dreadful decision and called for a penalty for a perfectly legitimate challenge on ronaldo by samuel. what a howler. what a terrible mistake.
for an hour, they worked so hard, they defended so valiantly and when they had a chance to counter, they were incisive.
and their reward for all their assiduity? a horrid decision from the referee. after all that they had went through, the close calls, all of it was wreaked by a poor, poor call.
but what could the bolton players do?
the only thing that they could do was to take in on the chin and accept the referee decision. however bad that may be.
the referee however, cannot change his mind after he made a call. it may be a mistake, and he may know it, but he cannot change his decision after he made the call. and so ronaldo duly converted the penalty kick and gave manutd the lead. a sucker punch to the bolton side who worked so very hard.
i think, that in life, we have to deal with lots of poor and unfair "referee's" decisions, but rather than try and argue and debate with the referee - who cannot change his decision the moment he blows his whistle - and get booked for that attempt that will be in vain anyway, why not deal with it, like the bolton players did. sure they lost the game, but at least they emerged with pride, and the sympathy of all who knows even the littlest of football, that they were hard done by.
